The Firm

The firm, Mehr-un-Nissa™ USA LLC, offers an exquisite line of jewelry. This jewelry is being created under the auspices of one of the few remaining illustrious noble families from the Mughal era. The Mehr-un-Nissa™ collection celebrates the glamorous jeweled arts of the Indian subcontinent during the age of the Mughals.

The Empress

The name Mehr-un-Nissa™ refers to a celebrated Mughal empress who was one of the most beautiful and influential women in the history of the Indian subcontinent.

Mehr-un-Nissa™ was an honorific title of The Empress Noor Jahan (1577-1645), wife of the Emperor Jahangir. She was a powerful administrator, an equestrian, a renowned archer and an inspirational patron of the decorative arts. Her influence can be seen in the design of the Taj Mahal, the memorial for her niece Mumtaz-Mahal, the wife of Emperor Shah Jahan.

The Tradition

The Mehr-un-Nissa™ collection evokes the brilliance and grandeur of the Mughal Empire, which was in its prime during the 16 th and 17 th centuries. The Mughals ruled over one of the most opulent courts known to man at a time when Mughal India comprised about a quarter of the world's total GDP.

The wealth and the informed patronage of the Mughal court produced an environment in which the decorative arts flourished. The artisans drew upon a vast repertoire of traditions in architecture, painting, ceramics, textiles and jewelry. The artistic heritage of many of the designs of the Mehr-un-Nissa™ collection can be traced to ancient India as well as to Central Asia and China.

The Craftsmanship

Each piece of Mehr-un-Nissa™ jewelry is crafted by hand in Bangladesh , using century-old designs and techniques. The collection not only represents superb and old craftsmanship, but also will help sustain these skills which have become almost extinct and which are rarely accessible. The American Museum of Natural History in New York has recognized the beauty and excellence of Mehr-un-Nissa™ and has selected a number of pieces for their 2006-2007 Gold! Exhibition.

All Mehr-un-Nissa™ jewelry pieces are created individually and are therefore unique. These are works of art that can be enjoyed today and cherished for generations to come.
